Mrs. Kelly's 2nd grade class skyped with author Mona Kirby, about her book Owney the Mail Pouch Pooch. Though we had some technical difficulties, we were able to continue the conversation via cell phone!
We loved learning about this dog's miraculous journey as part of the postal system and all the places it traveled. Ms. Kirby shared about how long the writing process can take, it took 10 years for her book to be published!
Mrs. Delgado's kindergarten class participated in a Mystery Number Skype with a K/1 class combination class in Billings, Montana. We found out that the combination class was made up of 6 kindergarteners and 11 1st graders...the only ones in the whole school. The entire school only had 65 students! This was a big shock to us since Knollwood has 675 students!
We practiced Mystery Number earlier in the week so we were excited to play the game with another class. Our number was 14, and the class did a great job of giving away the secret!
We asked questions about bigger and smaller, what numbers were part of their number, and what numbers it was between to successfully find out their number was 46! The class was so excited to guess the mystery number first! We used a 100s chart to track our results.
A 4th grade class participated in a mystery Skype with a class in New Hampshire. The states had several things in common, so many questions were repeated: border an ocean, east of Mississippi River, and 2 words in the state name!
Unfortunately the students did not guess their mystery class first, but they had a fun time eliminating possible states on the map. We all practiced our map skills narrowing down the small states in the northeast!
After correctly guessing each other's location we shared facts about our schools.
Mrs. Burleson's class had a fun time playing Mystery Skype with Mr. Windisch's 5th grade class in Idaho!
Questions asked included ... "Do you border an ocean?" ... "Are you east of the Mississippi River?" ... "Are you south of South Carolina?" ... "Are you west of Colorado?" ... and many more!
After, we asked questions about our schools and learned more about our new friends! It was such a fun experience!
Today, Mrs. Reyes' class got to play Mystery Skype with Mrs. Griffin's 5th grade class in Arkansas!
Several questions asked were:
We eventually narrowed down our states to Oklahoma and Arkansas and they knew we were in the Southeast region, bordered Tennessee and did not border West Virginia. We then guessed each other's states one after another! We then got to learn about each other's states and schools and ask questions about the school day! We had so much fun getting to know our new friends in Arkansas!
