To go along with their study of figurative language, Mrs. Burleson's class Skyped with poet Ted Scheu. His funny poems were a hit with the students.
He shared the importance of picking the words in poems carefully, and how similes, metaphors, and idioms really help the reader understand the poem. He gave the students great advice about keeping a book to write their thoughts in, and to read everyday so they will be a better writer.
Mr. Scheu has written over 3000 poems, and he says all poems are best understood when read aloud. He showcased this by reading aloud a poem all about ketchup, and we will all think of it every time we each ketchup!
