Mrs. Tuit's 4th grade class Skyped with author Barbara Dee, after reading part of her book Just Another Day In My Insanely Real Life. She shared that as an author of realistic fiction she uses real life events and her imagination as inspiration for her books; the triangle of a young person's life are school, family, and friends to base her writing on.
The students asked what she read as a child, and Ms. Dee shared one of her favorite books is A Wrinkle In Time, a book we have in the Knollwood Media Center! In a discussion about Point of View, students shared they prefer books written in 1st person, because as Michelle shared, "you can be in their mind".
It was hard for Ms. Dee to pick a favorite book, because she said usually her favorite is the one she just finished, since she is so invested in the characters. She gave the students great advice to keep trying at something you want to do; she had several jobs before being a writer.
